Chiwong Monastery located in the shadows of the highest mountain in the world, was founded by Sangey Lama in 1923. Sangey Lama's father, as the other Sherpas, had his origins in Kham - northeastern Tibet having migrated to make the Everest region of Solukhumbu his home.
